surfing

Pint of Guinness; Matthew Trevithick; 04.10.2006
Sligo really is a cold water surfers paradise. Its north facing aspect means it's a magnet for any swell in the North Atlantic from the west and north directions and the prevailing south westerly airstream is offshore. Sligo does tend to be wet and windy, which isn't actually a too bad thing, especially for the local surfers. It keeps many traveling surfers away who'd rather spend their dollar on the the warmer and ultimatley more crowded breaks of France and the Canaries, Sligo remains relatively quiet, for now.
County Sligo is the home to some world class surfing and the rewards are plenty, for those who make the pilgrimage, in the form of Easky Right, Easky Left and Bundoran to name but a few.
