Surfing

Harbour of Ancona; Giacomus; 06.07.2006
The east coast of Italy, being on the Adriatic sea, is the least consistent area of surf this country has. The Adriatic is shallow, stripping energy from a travelling swell and has a very narrow swell window. It relies on a north eastern storm or south eastern swell to get any surf, the former being the most common and offering the weakest swell. Despite this the surf population on the east coast is still keen and rightly so as there are a suprising number of challenging reefs to be taken on and this place is well worthy of its place on the surfing map.
