Surfing

Varazze notturna; Attilios; 22.07.2007
Varazze and Levanto are the best places to head for in northern Italy for the biggest and most challenging waves. The waves here are generated by the west winds of the Mistral and the most consistent times are Autumn and Spring. Winter tends to lack swell due to continental high pressure systems which bring freezing temperatures and snow instead of surf. There are some quality reefs to be had in this area but the secret to making the most of any north Italian surf is to have transport, flexibilty and a good eye for a weather chart.
