Surfing

The Mistral winds are also responsible for the surf along the Tuscan coast of central Italy. There are plenty of quality surf spots around Fort Dei Marmi, Viareggio, Livorno and Lillatro. Livorno is especially popular due to it's excellent exposed reefs that can often glass off into a quality surf spot after the storm has passed. On the smaller swells head to the Tuscan beach breaks. Just off the coast Elba Island has some good quality hollow and seldom busy reefs.
