Clare is one of the 26 counties within the Republic of Ireland and it provides a basis for local government, in the form of its own constituency within the Dáil Éireann. Located on the west coast of Ireland, Clare is northwest of the River Shannon covering a total area of 3,147 km².
The county system has existed since the 16th century. The counties form a sigificant part of local identity and culture within the country.

County Clare is similar to County Sligo in that it would be a world class surf spot if it were a bit warmer, so if the chillier water temps don't bother you, (and lets face it, with wetsuit technology today why should they?) then money spent on a ticket here would be a worthwhile investment. It has everything from mellow beach breaks to the down right frightening!!
County Clare is well exposed to all the Atlantic can through at it and picks up swell from the southwest through to the northwest. It also has a great traditional pub music culture.
