Introduction

The southern half of the island is Dutch, comprising the Eilandgebied Sint Maarten (Island area of St. Martin) and is part of the Netherlands Antilles. The Dutch side is a lively destination of white sand beaches, casinos, historical sites, shopping venues and lot of nightlife, and although the border between the two sides is invisible, it is noticeable in the change in culture and architecture. This part of the Island has east and south west facing coasts.
