São Tomé and Príncipe uses the Dobra, which is a restricted local currency used especially for importing and exporting.

The import of foreign currency is limited and you may export only up to the amount you import.

Some establishments require payment in US Dollars (USD). Travelers' cheques are not recommended.

A small handful of hotels exist in the capital.

Opulent resorts are available at the very northern and southern extremes of Sao Tome and Principe, the small island of Ilheu das Rolas, and at Ilha Bom Bom off the coast of Principe.

A new independent 3-star-hotel which is also recommended is Hotel Agôsto Neto located in central São Tomé City.
