Two islands off the archipelago of the Mentawai group come under the name Pagai - South Pagai and North Pagai.

The official names for the islands are Pagai Utara (north) and Pagai Selatan (south). The people of these islands still live in comparative isolation, maintaining their age-old ways. A rare monkey species known as the Pagai Island Macaque can be found in these islands.

There are a few resorts on the island to stay in, but as the area isn't big, you need to book early, especially during holiday seasons.

There is also a luxury resort there that is very popular to travellers. Most surfers would stay on yachts that can be chartered in Padang and motor between surf breaks as conditions change.
Some visiting surfers choose to stay on the island itself at resorts or with local families in Tua Pajet. There are quite a few resorts on the island, but remember, this island is small so accommodation is limited! Book early if you are going, especially in the busy months, such as Christmas holidays.
