introduction
Magnus Manske: Map of Bridgetown, 31 October 2007
In the south-west coast, the largest city is Bridgetown which consists of a population of 96,578 locals as of year 2006. The city of Bridgetown, and the wider Greater Bridgetown area occupy most of the parish of Saint Michael, an area which covers around 39km². Bridgetown's centre was originally composed of a swamp, which was quickly drained and filled-in to make way for the city's early development.
where to stay
Ranveig: High street Barbados, 14 September 2005
There is little, if any, accommodation in Bridgetown itself. Most visitors stay either in on of the small towns on the South coast or at one of the resorts near Speightstown and Holetown on the west coast.
Holetown offers some private houses for rent on the Sandy Lane Estate Beach or luxury villas on the Sandy Lane Golf Course.
