Map of Uusimaa by Zakuragi
Uusimaa (Nyland in Swedish which translated means New Land), is one of the 21 administrative regions in Finland. Finland's capital, Helsinki as well as the second largest city,Espoo are located in the central part of the region. It is a long region which stretches east of Helsinki going west to Hanko Cape, the southernmost point of the Finnish mainland. Hanko is the sunniest place in Finland, if not in the whole Baltic Sea area, and it offers a beach experience. Hanko has 130 kilometres of shoreline, of which 30 kilometres consists of beaches and hence is the place to go if you want to surf in Finland. The region, especially the coastal areas, is traditionally Swedish-speaking. Uusimaa is by far the most populated of the regions in Finland.
