NASA: Satellite Image of severe storm over the Red Sea; 2003
The Red Sea is the occasional victim of severe inland dust and sand storms that will occasionally sit in position drilling away over the water to either the North or South of the Sea. If this happens long enough then windswell will bounce either up or down the Red sea lighting up what are the most northern Tropical reefs in the world. The salinity in the Red sea is in some cases double that of normal sea water. An interesting phenomena that means you can get away with about 2 feet less surfboard and still maintain the same level of buoyancy.
You will find some achingly beautiful set ups on the northern reefs reefs offshore from Bur Sudan. Stygia Reef easily a regional classic. Boats can be very difficult to get hold of in this area though and many roads run a long way inland from the harsh desert coast, so definetly plan this trip out in fine detail. Ensure that detail includes bringing all of your own water.
Be sure to check appropriate travel warning locations prior to visiting this region. The events unfolding in the troubled Darfur region at the moment in the far west of Sudan are a true human tragedy in the making.

Flashdance: A pair of very simple Moroccan flip flops called "Cabjuks"; 25 May 2007
Frankly speaking, it's not a good idea to go to Sudam at this stage, as it can be dangerous. If you still plan to go, remember that Sudan is a malarial region, so be especially cautious during the rainy season. Have vacinations before and take plenty of medicines.
Trainers, loose clothing - everything for the hot weather. Definitely take along some bug repellent spray, good sunscreen and sunglasses.
