general information

Point Impossible, or ‘Posso’s’ as it is generally known, is a hang-out spot for the local long-boarding crew. The wave suits them perfectly, and the rest of the local wave riding fraternity are happy to leave them to it, down the end of that long gravel road.

There are actually two waves at Point Impossible. Inside Posso’s breaks right in front of the car park, a slow peeling right-hand reef break. Inside Posso’s can be surfed at two to six foot (waist high to double overhead). The waves usually don’t generate enough drive to satisfy short-boarders, especially when it’s small.

Inside Posso’s is where most of the surfing happens at Point Impossible, as it’s easier to get to than the wave found slightly to the west and 300 metres out from the beach, Outside Posso’s. The wave at Outside Posso’s is almost identical to the wave at Inside Posso’s, but slightly bigger.

For the long-boarders in the area Point Impossible is well worth visiting. For everyone else, it’s probably not worth the effort.

Extra breaks
Aside from the main break mentioned above, Possos also has a left hander in the rivermouth, more suited to short boards, a left known as "Sometimes", in between the inside and outside reefs, and two reefs (2nd and 3rd reefs) to the south of the first outside reef. Lefts and rights can be ridden on the 1st and 2nd outside reefs, the 3rd outside reef is a right only and does not work too often. Quite a lot of short boarders do surf here. The outer reefs are affectionately also known as "Chickens Reef". Quite a few of the older Bells crew can be found here when Bells gets too big for the old boys!
