general information

Speeds Reef is right in front of the lookout at East Ballina. Follow the road to "Surfing Beaches" to the end and you will see Speeds right below you.

Paddle out is best from either Shelly Beach or Lighthouse Beach. It is about 200m either way.

A reef bottom out crop that can be a bit fickle. Wave direction needs to be just right to really make it work and then you idealy need an off shore west wind too. When it does break it is front of dry rocks so you need to stay focused as riding too far can result in reef rash. Fun powerful waves for experienced surfers.

Often see whales and dolphins out at this break.
