general information

When Desrt Point breaks it is easily one of the best examples of the magic that results from reef, swell and wind. The problem though lies in the inconsistency of the wave itself. Desert Point needs a solid SW swell to even look like breaking, and anythin other than an offshore wind is going to seriously ruffle what can be a very bumpy take off. Remember that the SW swell you are looking for needs to march a long way across the Indian Ocean all the way from the base of South Africa and so swell decay limits the likelihood of these swell trains arriving with any regularity. Your best bet would be to base yourself at Bali (Bukit Peninsula) where two coasts are goin to give you a lot more consistent surf. If it looks like everything is about to come together then boat or helo it over to Lombok for what is likely to be a life changing experience. People actually give up surfing occasionally after a solid session at Desert Point because they know they are never going to be able to top the high they have just experienced.
