general information

On the south side of Flagstaff point you'll find The Gongs south city beach, just look for the white lighthouse and it's the beach below it. There is free parking right above the break. This beach break receives a lot of protection from summer northeasterly winds and is offshore in northwesterlies making it a very popular summer spot, it's proximity to the city and easy access also make it a busy break. The best wave here is tucked under the rocky cliff close to the headland. Excellent quality sandbanks flick out a fast hollow lefthand barrel in bigger swells and it's protection means it can be working well when everywhere else is onshore mush.

On the small days there are peaks all along this beach as far as the eye can see down to Port Kembla, the further south you walk along the beach away from the carpark the thinner the crowds get.
