general information

Anglesea to the west of torquay is a popular tourist town and has a couple of good breaks. The main beach is mellow enough for beginners and novices and has some good banks at times. To the south end of the main beach in front of the rivermouth and slightly offshore is a reefbreak that can sometimes offer a nice lefthander.

Break description
Anglesea is a classic learners beach. It is a long shallow beach, so it is possible to get long white water rides here. The local surf schools are frequently here. It is also a very popular family beach, so beware of the crowd factor in the summer and if you are riding a board, keep well out of the flagged area. It is a very frustrating beach to surf once you are able to ride a shoulder, as the whole break is pretty much one big close out. Very seldom will a wave peal here.
