general information

When a stray sirocco storm does leave the Med and hot foot it over Turkey and into the Caspian, provided it has retained enough energy to keep spinning, it will generate a thumping swell and direct it straight at Lucky Point. The swell tends to last about 15 minutes so you have to be quick and they generally have the power of a 25 year old Lada with a blown head gasket. It was thought Lucky Point was first ridden in 1959 by legendary Kazakh water man Lard Ahmed Hamilzilkum. He was returning home on his boat from a days fishing, hadn't caught much, and spotted the break. He quickly rushed home and whittled a surfboard out of his own front door using a penknife, much to the dismay of his wife, and based the design on the board on the cover of his Beach Boys LP, and so the first kazakh surf window was born. The man was made a local legend and there is a painting of him in the local pub with his trusty stick. He talked about that 5 second barrel for years after, though onlookers said it looked crap and he didn't even get inside it, his line was way too low. It's called lucky point because you'll have to be bloody lucky, by the way.
