general information

An often sketchy reef takeoff - even by American Samoan standards. Head to Papafa'ase Cove about 30 minutes west out of Pago Harbour. The main break will be pretty much right in front of you. Make sure you study the take off from the shore before heading out, there is a definite art to it on this wave. After a technical take off it's pretty much a down the line barrel with a thick lip section to play with at the end.

If this is your first time out here, try it on a fuller tide. Exercise caution on a falling tide. Don't even think about pulling into a barrel that you don't give yourself a 50/50 shot or better on making, the coral bombies between the break and the headland aren't particularly unique in making the wave critical but risking yourself and your board in being deposited on top of them is a risk you just don't need to take here, there are plenty of waves and not a lot of surfers - you run the hazard risk assesment maths yourself.
