general information

On a dark desert highway...cool wind in my hair...one spell of...um..er

On a dark winters night in 1974, the Norweigan bulk Carrier Signa was forced aground in heavy seas on Stockon Beach. Salvage crews were to eventually cut the rear half of the ship away and tow it to be salvaged. The forward half of the ship however has been rusting away on Stockton Beach for the last 30 years.

Enterprising surfers were quick to discover that the location of the wreck regularly gathered a high quality sand bank along it's southern point. The wreck has been attracting surfers for years on a clean swell and a lowish tide.

Access is along Stockton Beach via 4WD, permits are required to get on the beach but available from most service stations in the area. Call Port Stephens Local council on +61 2 49800255 for more information on passes if you have any problems.

The wreck is notoriously sharky, no one may have been attacked in the water here but the region is a known breeding ground for Hammerhead Sharks - due cautioned should be exercised.
