general information
A western European novelty that manages to make all visiting westerners just that little bit homesick for surf...or makes them kick themselves that they didnt go surfing in France that weekend.
The Eisbach is a river tributary right in the centre of Munich. Glacier meltwater jets through a man made bridge and a combination of shallow rocks, river topography and several aligned grates creates a 2-4 foot standing wave. Watch the locals before getting amongst it. This wave is deceptively fast, better on a speedy shortboard. There are a nasty collection of rocks just behind the curl, something to avoid when you kick off.
Be cautious if the river is nothing but heavy whitewater, the wave will be too fast and the undertow to severe. Lineing up for a wave on the bank of the river is nothing if not a unique experience...especially in a wet wetsuit in -5 degrees.
