general information

One of several quality reef sections in the Nusa Dua area, yet away from the better known Nusa dua Reef proper to the south. 'Black Stone' is the name the Balinese give to the magnificent black basalt point just to the north of the wave - to the North of The Grand Hyatt. The reef here dries out totally on low tide and as such, the wave is only really rideable on larger swells at a higher tide. A swell component often bounces off the point and puts a very interesting ripple across the main set. A short but hollow left hander is the result. Beware of sitting inside and being caught by sneaker sets here, as a wave on a bad angle will close out along the entire 200 metres of reef, blasting everything in front of it along the urchin beds. Mirth and mayhem abound when the watersport shop on the beach permits guests from the Grand Hyatt to go out here on hired longboards. The long paddle makes it a little hard to judge exactly how hollow and steep the takeoff is - you'll see Chinese fibreglass flying in all directions on bigger days. A shortcut into the lineup exists from the small beach within the point itself. Time this one well on bigger days to prevent the above embarisment.
