general information
Rabbits Rabbits is the break north Yallingup reef. It’s a top-to-bottom grinding righthander that thunders across a sand bottom producing big round barrels. Rabbits only works when the sand bank exists. It requires a moderate to large swell to start firing as it is relatively protected by the reef at Yallingup. When the swell is up the south moving current is relentless. Rabbits can be a difficult wave to predict, quite often you just have to take off and hope it’s a good one. There’s plenty of waves that shut down, however in between the bad ones there’s some absolute reelers. When it’s big Rabbit’s isn’t a wave for working on your cutties and floats. Big fast barrels is what it’s all about. The patch of reef the Rabbits bank forms off also has a small left breaking over it named Mousetraps. It works on small to moderate swell and is occasionally ridden by bodyboarders. Mousetraps is a small, short, and heavy wave that closes-out onto dry reef. Not much fun. When the swell is solid Rabbits is a dangerous and difficult wave to surf, experienced surfers need only apply. For everyone else, just sit up on the hill and enjoy the show. BT
