general information

Smiths is a popular reef break inside of Smiths Bay. It is a short right-hand barrel with a quick take-off. Smiths is always small than Yallingup Reef and is best from two to six foot. It also handles a southerly wind better then most breaks in the area. The take off area is small however it is a consistent wave so crowds aren’t always a problem. Smiths Beach is the bay south of Yallingup.

To get to the car park head down Caves Road turn right down Canal Rocks Road, and right again. For the best part of a decade it has been a centre of controversy. Developers are desperately trying to knock down native bushland surrounding the beach to build their own concrete paradise - despite objections from a large portion of the local community. The fight is still going on even toady, jump onto the ‘Save Smiths Beach’ website if you wish to lend your support. The wave at Smiths is short and sweet. There are plenty of barrels and a nice deep channel to paddle back out though. The beach break either side of the reef is often good, and towards the southern end of the bay is ideal for beginners.
