general information
Tofinho Point is one of Mozambique’s premier waves. Tofinho Point can produce long barrels, speed runs, and nice steep walls. however the quality of this right hand point break depends on the sand bottom. Generally the greater the sand build-up the better the wave. There are rocks lining the point and shoreline. Tofinho Point isn’t a place for beginners. Tofoinho Point is a five minute drive (20 minute walk) from the village of Tofo. There are no real accommodation options at the point itself, most surfers stay at Tofo and make the short trip to the point. There are a number of accommodation options at Tofo, ranging from nice hotels down to backpackers and camp sites. Bamboozi just to the north of Tofo is a good cheap option. Tofo is a world famous dive centre with coral reefs and tropical fish in abundance. Whalesharks, humpbacks and dolphins are also big drawcards to the area. If possible it’s best to avoid Tofo during South Africa’s school holidays as the place becomes overrun with tourists. Tofinho Point needs a moderate to large swell to start performing. It’s worth the wait though, as there’s certainly something special about surfing quality waves in a far away land such as Mozambique. BT
