general information

Sitting far north of Whitby and just to the north of Sandsend beach is the The Caves, nestled nicely under cliff lined headland. This spot receives great protection from northerly to westerly winds and is hence usually very busy in these conditions. Breaks best around mid tide, high tide is unsurfable due to the cliffs and the backwash from them. Left handers peel away under the shadow of the cliff when around 4ft and they can offer some long walling rides, though it doesn't hold much bigger and maxes out easily. Parking is available in a small car park right next to the break but get here early as it fills up quickly.
