general information

The Caribbean coast's premier wave and Costa Rica's heaviest. The jewels here are the powerful and hollow right handers that can yeild mind-blowing barrels. It can handle a lot of size (bring on 15ft) and those mind-blowing barrels are likely to turn into mind-snapping wipeouts unless you know what you are doing, or try to make that unmakeable barrel section. So bring a few boards and what ever other protectin you need.

The wave is actually sets up with two separate peaks and so does throw lefts as well, which tend to be shorter but still barrel. The spots Spanish name "Salsa Brava" loosely translates to "Angry Sauce" in English. Which provides some forewarning of the possible danger that awaits. Though for experts and hellman who who like their sauce angry, this is the place to be when the swell is on. Unfortunately that swell doesn't arrive often enough and the term fickle is sometimes attched to the wave.
