general information
Far from the maddening crowds and resorts to the north of Aruba lies California Sand Dunes, so named due to the expanse of open sand on the eastward side of the point. This place has been the haven of many a surfer dragged on a holiday to Aruba by the wife. The resort beaches are beautiful but all overlook placid calm water on the western side of the island. During the hurricane season the majority of systems pass well to the north but leave in their wake some excellent north to easterly ground swell. The point really turns on in those conditions , nothing world class but a very zippy right hander as the wave wraps around the headland towards the south. Take a car as far as the roads will take you to the north and then walk about a kilometre until you reach the ocean, if you are lucky there will be someone else out.
