general information

Habushiura Beach is the longest beach on Niijima in the Izu islands, about a 7 hour boat ride from Tokoyo. It is a well known quality surf spot. Seven kilometres of pristine white beach offer spread out peaks that produce powerful waves. Be warned, it can handle size and is one of the most powerful waves in Japan, so though it's recommended for intermediates, make sure you're up for it.

It has been home to several surf competitions including the annual Niijima Pro. The beach is also backed by 250 meter high white cliffs that offer spectacular scenery from the water during a lull. Apparently the sand has an extremely high quartz crystal content that gives the beach it's blinding white colour.

Usually not crowded except on holidays and weekends, when the nearby campground can pack out.
