general information
Just south of Waikiki is Playa Mariano. The main wave here is a sand rock-reef at the northern end, that provides left hand hollow barrels. The beach break also has a peak and is particularly open to south swells, so is more powerful than the beaches closer to the city. And also has less crowds. Get out early as it can blow out, and paddling out in a howling onshore can be rough. One of the better breaks around.
