general information
Ukhia has several rivermouth and beachbreaks in the area that are worth investigating. This stretch of the coastline is often the best aligned to receive any available swell and the transport of sand from the Ganges and the smaller rivers usually forms favourable banks in the area. Ukhia is fairly easy to reach via road from the capital Chittagong and the frontier town of Cox's Bazar. From Ukhia, take the local roads to the coast and heasd south. It is worth checking any rivermouth you come across for evidence of superior sand bank formation.
The waves here are your standard beachbreak material, classic when it all comes together, miserable when it falls apart. Be careful of travelling around here during periods of heavy rain, flash floods and mudslides are common. South of Ukhia the population is far less as is the pollution from the more populous regions to the north. The water quality may notbe fantastic but it shouldn't be toxic. At best it will be that, 'I wonder whats beneath me now shade of brown'.
