general information

Glover's Reef is located on the edge of the continental shelf and is a the slender coral 50 kms offshore from Dangriga, in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. It is the most southern of Belize's three offshore atolls. At the end of Long Caye, one of the central islands you may find a fast right hand reef break that can yield some fun waves if you luck into being there when it's working. Gets shallow so bring your booties and beginners should not try. NE trades will send short period wind swell to the reef, so there's a chance of a wave most times, but usually accompanied by onshore winds. The best option is to hope for Hurricane swell from Dec to March, and you never know what can happen.... Named after pirate brothers, John and Rodger Glover, who in the 1750's attacked the Spainish from the islands. Now days over 30% of the atoll is a Heritage and Marine Conservation area, while a lot of the rest is privately owned islands.
