general information
Saltstein (or Saltstone in English) is about 1hour south of the capital Oslo and really the only close option for surfers that live there, so expect at least a handful to be at this spot. The wave breaks over a rocky-reef and produces mostly mushy but occasionally workable walls. It relies on break storms in Kategatt or gale onshore winds winds to whip up enough swell.
Breaks mostly during winter but so cold that you have to be tough. Best bet is to hope for some late some or Autumn swells when the air temperature is a bit warmer, but the water will still be cold enough freeze a brass monkey. For access, head to Larvik, ask some friendly locals who will point the way further to the south west.
