general information

Situated on the seaward side of Magnetic Island, Florence Bay is probably the most consistent beach break in the area. Whilst it rarely breaks it does become a haven for all of the diehard locals remembering their past on the southern coast when surf was a regular part of their lives.

Accordingly you are likely to see a colourful array of boards and riders of all shapes, sizes and ability. As the beach needs a good dose of cyclonic swell to get things moving, it is rare to catch this break not affected by wind. To get here, take the ferry from nearby Townsville, hire yourself a Moke on the island and explore. There are a few other spots on the island worthy of investigation in the wake of cyclogenesis.
