general information
Fistral is the most famous surfing beach in the UK and is the centre of the universe of UK surfing. It is host to the WQS series boardmasters competition in July/August when some of the worlds best surfers come here to compete. It is also the home break to some of the best surfers the UK has produced. For this reason Newquay itself has boomed in the past few years to party central being a host to all manner of pubs and clubs - the nightlife scene is pretty full on. Quick tip, if you're here for New Years Eve don't forget your fancy dress costume, it's kind of a tradition here and the pubs go off!!
Anyway back to the surf, Fistral is busy!! Winter thins the crowd a little as do the bigger swells but summer is madhouse with all kinds of wave craft out on the water piloted by people of varying abilities. It's best get the early session in to clear the hangover and go somewhere else during the day.
Fistral has some great banks all up the beach delivering powerful and hollow rides on bigger swells, there are some great lefts at the southern end too. At the north end is a slightly trickier wave called "Little Fistral" that break at low tide offering hollow rides, Little Fistral is not for beginners.
